What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a gentle,
non-invasive procedure in which therapeutic (manual)
pressure is applied to the reflexes of the feet or hands,
causing a neural stimulus to be transmitted to the
corresponding organs in the body.
Physiologically this stimulation activates various
processes within the body, including:
- A general detoxification
- Neurological stimulation (which activates the
healing process)
- Increased circulation of all fluids
- Relieved congestion and ultimate rebalancing of the
organs functions
The illustration below shows how the organs of the body
are mirrored in the reflexes of the feet.

Stimulation of the reflexes, on a regular basis, brings
about homeostasis within the organs of the body, and the
following are some of the overall benefits of having regular
Reflexology treatments:
- Immediate stress relief
- Allergy relief
- Reduction in back and neck tension
- Promotion of good sleeping habits
- Improved digestion
- Rebalancing of hormones
- Promotion of fertility
Stress can be attributed to causing 75% of all illnesses
in our society today. 85% of our South African workforce are
suffering from stress and stress related illnesses. Thus,
many companies have ‘Stress Management’ programs for their
staff. There are a few South African companies which have
actively addressed the ‘stress’ problem and include
Reflexology in their staff wellness centres/programs, as a
therapy (on offer to their staff) for managing stress
better.
These companies are:
- ABSA
- ABSACapital
- AngloGoldAshanti
- Diagnostech
- FNB
- J.P.MorganChase
- Wesbank
- Barker Insurance Brokers (The BIB Management
covers the cost for all their staff to receive
Reflexology treatments at work!)
Join the trend - get your workforce working optimally
without their stress affecting your productivity levels.
